Yeah. I got one of these from my girlfriend for my birthday. OK you could do it yourself my rigging up your old decks to your soundcard, but this is a lot less hassle.

I've got 1000s of northern Soul singles and this is just the job for converting to mp3 or straight to wav for CD burning. It's really simple to set up and use with the Audacity software. Basically you just plug it in, put the needle on the record and press record. You can clean the tunes once you've recorded them, though to be honest it's hardly worth it. I mean, if you were playing the vinyl you'd still hear the crackles and pops, and there's something quite endearing and nostalgic about that anyway! OK, if it's a really bad scratch then remove it, otherwise it's gonna take you a long, long time to clean them all!

It's a bit more tricky to record an album as you have to split the tracks yourself , but it's fine once you've got the hang of it. Luckily you can record an album at 45 speed plus 10% gain, then convert it back to 33 less 10% gain with the software, so that speeds up the whole process.

And after you've converted all your stuff to mp3 you can always sell the thing on ebay. Or if you want you can keep it and plug it directly in to your stereo for those days when you actually wanna PLAY those scratchy old singles.

Plus... You get to spend HOURS in your study listening to your old vinyl in the first place.... 2006-09-07
