The Alesis Protrack fulfils a major requirement for a lot of DJs - the ability to record their live mix straight onto an iPod. You can use the handheld recorder on it's own (it has excellent quality, built-in stereo microphones) or connect up to a stereo mic set, mixer output, or other mono/stereo source (via XLR or 6.3mm jacks).
