Bit expensive
By: Liam Charlton
Very smart headphones. Dont honestly think there worth the price but look good indeed. They dont kick out much bass, and personally I dont find the ear cups comfortable, but that depends from person to person. For me they havnt coped well in club conditons, low frequencies are not loud enough. Overall good headphones but maybe a bit expensive.

Good Value, but at this price don't expect miracles
By: DJ Jaxxter
Interesting to read some of the reviews on this product; I think it's important not to lose sight of the price of these headphones and for what they cost, it is not fair to expect a ground-breaking sonic experience. These have the typical 'Sony sound' to them (ie. sweet midrange and crisp treble), the bass is tight and well defined but limited in depth (due to their smallish drivers). Suitable for DJ use in quieter venues and home only. If you work in a club, you will need to spend more money on headphones which are louder and cover a wider range of frequencies. Totally agree with people's comments on the swivel brackets, they are nowhere near strong enough... Sony, please do something about this!

Very Good for the money
By: Jamie Williams
These are an awseome set of headphones for the money. The low-end frequencies aren't as good as the industry standard headphones, but as any top mixer will tell, its not the quality of the low-end but the high-end frequencies to drop a good mix

exelent for bedroom djs, not for clubs
By: aaron
if your a bedroom dj like me these are exelent. iv had mine for 3 years and have used them lots. I've thrown them around a lot and havent had any troble with them. if you want to use them in clubs avoid these no way near loud enough.

By: dj blitzin
theese have worse sound quallity than the ones you get free with cheap walkmans. you are paying for the design and looks if you buy theese Sennheiser HD25 P**S all over these and everything at every price range save up and bu sennies they last a life time.

Not worth your time or money
By: Seedie Al
My pals think they're OK but I've heard a lot better, really disappointed with the sound quality. I wouldn't be happy about using them in a bar or club. Not had them long enough to test the swivel joints, I'm selling them again and getting something better!

Steer Clear
By: Jon
These things break at the swivel joints for no reason! Steer clear. Sony ought to be ashamed to put out a seemingly faulty product.

Disappointing Sony!
By: MoNsTa
Sound quality is ok but distorts at highish volume which aint no good to man nor beast =/ biggest problem is the swivel joints.. Iv had them for over a year now and they were ok up untill recently (just as they ran out of warantee funnily enough) and they have snapped on both sides and dont stay on your head properly so thumbs down on these.. Sorry sony but not good enough!

Home or Studio only.
By: Craig
Right, these headphones are strictly for home and studio use only. I used them last night for the first time in a bar and they just aren't good enough. The high end is very good, but the low end is poor. Just not enough bass. However, if you are using them for home or studio work/listening they are perfectly good. Alright value for money, but not good enough for club or bar use.

great buy for a smaller pub DJ or home use.
By: macleod
I bought the Sony MDRV500's about a year ago after just starting the whole Dj thing. I have had no problems, no cracks, i've dropped them, kicked them, stood on them yanked them from sockets (all by mistake i mean..... yeh right) and the blo**y things keep bouncing back for more. However, I am getting into the Dj'ing a bit more seriously now, and I have started to realise that the sound quality really needs to get a lot better to compete against the top dogs. I tried a pair of HD 25's and I couldn't believe what I had been missing. But if you are just starting out, these are a pretty good buy without hurting the wallet to much.... Oh, and they look prety cool too!!

Avoid!!!
By: Mark
Terrible. I have had mine replaced 2 times now, they break at the swivle joints. On top of that like the others say, the sound quality is terrible. Go for pioneer DJ5000's, Sennheiser HD212/200 or Stanton DJ2000

Leave well alone
By: Chris Brooks
A warning 2 anyone looking at purchasing these headphones - leave them well alone i'm only a bedroom dj and i think the quality is very very poor i don't think they will stand a club soundsystem because the bass is apalling and i don't play my music that loud. Don't even consider these go for a better pair - you get what you pay for!

Nice headphones, but crap bass
By: oli g
You would think they would be ideal being cheap and looking nice. They are well made, comfy and practical, swiveling cups are spot on. They dont distort too badly at extreme levels, you could use em for a pub/bar. Nut the downside is they do sound a bit s**t, bass isnt very good, not a warm sound at all. At the price probably still worth rinsing out however and Mc GQ said that.

DO NOT BUY!
By: Chris Brooks
These headphones are not a good purchase.i bought a pair and have regreted it ever since go for the new pioneer's or technics 1210's they are 100 times better.

Value for money.
By: DJ-H
They're on par with sennheiser 25sp, not quite as much low end and the top end is slightly less clear but they are good. While the sony 700, sennheiser 25 and the new pioneer 1000 are better, they also cost twice as much. These may be 1/2 the price, but they're a lot better than 1/2 the quality. I can comfortably stand infront of our 1kw monitoring rig and mix whith these. I played with goldie last week (see website) and he used my sony 500s instead of his headphones because he liked them more!

looks 5/5 sound 0/100
By: Alex Freeman
Got these in the post today, pulled em out the box ... I loved em! The rotating cups the spiral cord ...they looked just the bomb! .... Then i plugged em in ... They are the s*****t headphones iv ever had! Iv gotta pair of mdrv300`s and they are 100times better than the 500`s ....the 500`s have no bass what so eva and they distort at the quietest levels ... No chance in a pub ...let alone a club! ,never buy ... Go for the mdrv300`s !!!

worth it and more
By: the one armed bandit
I've found these the best value for money headphones around. After testing various others these proved to be a good pair of first headphones and ideal for bars and smallish clubs money well spent.

!!Wicked!!
By: Storm
Amazing!! These cans can take alot.. The bass is amazing while the trebel is still clear even at high volume! These cans blew me away! 55 quid n e 1? Buy em u no u want to!! Keep it goin dj store =)

2002-12-11
Overall i think they're good headphones for around the 50 quid mark
By: DeeJay Aspin
First up these aren't professional cans but they're still good....i've had mine for a few years with no complaints..there physical design is superb...rotating cups, extending cable etc. I've played in lots of clubs with these on my head and generally they've been fine however occasionally they've began to distort at very high volumes making it pretty hard to mix...anyhow if i only had 55 quid to buy another pair of headphones i'd definitely buy the sonys again..
