usb works fine
By: Michael
To the person knocking the 400s for not reading his HDD properly researching a product would be better before you mess up and complain.
The usb is only 5v which is fine for usb sticks, but will struggle to index a HDD with over 50gb of music on it.
If you want to use an external drive Pioneer recommends using one with a seperate power supply.
Plus you cannot then say an 800 is better cos u would have been using discs then anyways.

Great bit of kit
By: Steve
Great service from DJStore - delivered next day.
I'm really chuffed with these decks! Besides the jog wheel and the slightly cramped (in comparison) spacing, operation is exactly the same as on the 800s and 1000s, which is why I bought these. Same components - The smoothest and most reliable CD slot mechanism ever built (in my opinion) and rock solid buttons that will last years. My local nightclub has had the same pair of 1000s for about 5 years and never had a problem, and these feel like they've been built in exactly the same manner.
The big question is - how does the jog wheel match up? Well, I'm afraid the wheels on the bigger boys are simply better. BUT for this price this has to be the best wheel out there, and the closest available to the pioneer pro decks.
Lets face it, you struggle to mix on your cheap whatever brand decks at home then go to the club and play on Pios, and everything is a lot easier. These bring you that much closer. I now feel I'll be totally familiar with the ins and outs of the cue and looping when I get to play on the 1000s again, the only difference with the jog wheel is it will be...easier than at home!
That said the wheel is very responsive and the best I've played on at this size.
Someone mentioned get Axis 9's instead. They are great for a first pair of decks but after 1 or 2 years of use they will start to go wrong. Loads of the buttons on mine are broken/take a few pushes before they work (thankfully the play and cue buttons held up though!). They don't hold their pitch and can completely throw you out of a mix in a millisecond. Sometimes the cd drawer wont open, other times they refuse to read a disc which is completely fine. They work perfectly for a while but then the cracks start to show...I'm thinking that probably wont happen with the CDJ-400.
Also USB feature works well on a 4gb memory stick (haven't tried with a big hard drive) although the buffer memory is not as long as when playing with CDs (so really long spinbacks might not work too well). Also you can only browse MP3 files on the stick by filename only, as the unit reads the file system in browse mode rather than accessing all the tracks to get the ID3 tag info. But to be honest its grea because I dont have to burn 1 tune per disc anymore, I just add tunes to the stick as I go and then burn whole folders onto audio disc, simple! Has revolutionised the way I organise my tunes. Thanks Pioneer!

Could've been sooo much better!!
By: DJ Craigyboy
Hmmm, not as great and awesome as i was led to believe really! The USB function won't read fast enough and sometimes won't read at all, the jog wheel sometimes takes a good spin before it'll skip frames and the so-called vinyl mode will scratch but not as well as the Numark Axis 9's and they don't feel as well made for the price - My advice would be to save the extra couple of hundred on each unit and buy the Axis 9's, they're more reliable and better equipped to handle DJ's that work at a faster pace.

Great product
By: Mark
Delivered on time by djstore. Excellent quality. Scratch feature works better than expected. Make sure that your ID tags have been done correctly and the names of the tacks will appear. Pitch control works well. The unit feels pretty solid. Very good customer service from djstore, pre and post sale. 5/5.

Not a substitute for a CDJ-800 or 1000
By: Mike White
I use these decks regularly at my radio station and I have been massively disappointed. The USB function has let me down twice live on air by failing to read and load up tracks from a portable hard drive quickly enough. I am not into childish sound effects therefore the two greatest selling points of this bit of kit do not compensate for the overall cheap feel of the unit. The JOG wheel is absolutely inferior to those on the CDJ-800 and 1000. On a more positive note the sound quality is reasonable and the cue and loop functions are easy to use. Overall I would pay the extra for the CDJ-800 as the greater tactility is a more important factor for me than USB functions (when they work) and sound effects.

BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!
By: Max K-C
Finally received my cdj-400's yesterday and from straight out of the box they have been brilliant!!!!! they are great cdj's with all the features you would expect from pioneer. effects are great, especially 'roll' which is great to play with, scratching is on a par with the cdj-1000's and the new beat loops are awesome!!!! the fact that you can use your ipod aswell and cue in tracks from it is just another reason why these are soooo good!!! just one negative point, the jog wheel feels a tiny bit cheap, but i guess thats because it needs to be more responsive. Overall this is an amazing cdj!!! will complement any set up you have and blow your mind!!!
BELIEVE THE HYPE

Best Deck Ever.
By: Iain Craig
Probably the BEST DECK EVER
The roll function is my favourite, im a very random DJ at times, but this deck has 0% faults you can get 2 of these and probably have the same kind of fun as you would have on a 1000 for basically a quarter off the price of two 1000's
