Great product for beginners and pros alike but far too small to be taken seriously at a proper venue
By: Larry

Ive had the pacemaker since Christmas as at the time i wanted to give dj'ing a try but knew i wasnt going to be playing at any gigs too soon. Because all the parties i go to tend to involve a jack jack lead to speakers/amp connected to an iPod, the oacemaker was perfect to bring along. It seemed like a revolution from when a song was changed, the room would stop dancing and groan whilst there is a pause in the music to songs actually being mixed together! Also, being able to mix on the bus to and from school and showing mates anywhere and everywhere proved the pacemaker a truly satisfying buy. However, the only downside is now ive presented myself as a bit of a dj amongst my friends (i put on a good act) i am posed with a rather large problem when they ask me to dj at their parties. Because despite denying it as much as you could, you look a bit pathetic behind speakers fiddling with this oversized iPod. Inevitably therefore i am now looking to expand in my hardware and get a computer controller. Nonetheless, despite it's size it has started a passion within me to dj and is something id recommend to anyone who wants a truly awesome alternative to iPods at parties! 2009-05-28
A first class product which has revitalised my love of DJ’ing and should be part of any serious DJ’s
By: DJ f4780y

The Tonium is a great product, far exceeding my expectations. It delivers a truly portable, “palm of your hand”, DJ setup. Great for practice, house parties, smaller gigs and short sets, although you may not want to entrust your “big room performance” to this device alone. Remember it is not intended to be a stand alone professional rig. That said, with a bit of luck on your side there’s no reason it couldn’t pull off a 3 or 4 hour set without a hiccup. I’ve had a couple of lock-ups which would not be ideal if I was in the middle of a gig, but then again my laptop crashes with about the same frequency. The PC software to manage your tracks is more “pretty” than functional and managing a large library is more challenging than it should be. iTunes integration is very limited and to be clear neither the Pacemaker software nor iTunes sync automatically with the device. If your music library is not well tagged you will struggle as it will not use folder names containing album /artist details to assist you. You must drag and drop tracks onto the device which can be a headache. If you want a permanent cue point for a track you set it on the PC software before dragging it to the device. If you set a cue point on the device (which is really easy, just pause and press “cue”) it is forgotten once you load the next track on the deck. Why? If you set up a loop on the device and it remembers it forever for that track. Just shows how they do some features perfectly and others counter-intuitively. It’s worthwhile checking out the products forums, but don’t be too put off by any negative comments you see there. The major criticism is the time taken for Tonium to deliver updates which I understand have been non existent over the first year or so. But that seems to be changing with a major firmware upgrade which has recently been launched and future updates promise to fix issues and inconsistencies. I am highlighting the negatives above, but to be clear the device on the whole is awesome. Auto beatmatching is simple and effective. Pulling off great mixes is a breeze. Once you get to grips with the effects and configure the triggers to your liking they do a great job. The virtual crossfader works well, but is of course no substitute for a physical fader. If your mixing repertoire includes lots of fast cuts you might struggle a little. And of course you can easily record your set, transfer it to the PC and then publish it to the world. Bonus! Also, don’t underestimate how amazing it is to pull off a blinding mix whilst sitting on the train or bus! 2008-03-21
The best thing since sliced bread
By: Richard Sara

This has to be the best idea since sliced bread, It incorporates the whole basic DJ set up and more, which is great for people on the go. My work takes me all over the world, which means I cant exactly through my decks into my suit case and lug a huge record box with me. The good thing about Pacemaker is the 120gb hard drive is almost impossible to fill, the features are fantastic, I thought it was going to be hard to use, but its not, and the manual just makes it even more simple to learn. You can hook it up to almost any system, download to it in minutes, and I have to say it beats any laptop based software ever written to DJ with to date. My IPOD is now 100% redundant, and the only thing I use my laptop for now is transfering music to my Pacemaker. Its the best gadget in the world and I think its a very serious bit of DJ'ing equipment. I 100% recommend getting one
